Han River Bridge is the only swing bridge in Vietnam and a symbolic structure of Da Nang. The bridge contributes to helping Da Nang be known as “the city of beautiful bridges”.

Han River Bridge captivates a flock of Indian tourists with modern beauty in the charming Han River, especially at night. In this article, Vietnamtour.in will discover all the necessary information about the Han River Bridge, including its special architecture, how to get there, the best time to visit, and exciting activities in the Han River Bridge area.

Brief Information

Special Architecture and Swing Duration

Han River Bridge was inaugurated on March 29, 2000, to help locals and visitors travel from the west to the east of Da Nang. The bridge is the first swing bridge in Vietnam, designed and constructed by Vietnamese engineers and workers.

The uniqueness of the Han River Bridge is its rotation feature. Every night, the middle part of the bridge turns 90 degrees around its axis, opening the way for large ships to pass through. Then, the bridge returns to its initial position.

The swing duration of the Han River Bridge depends on the day and the frequency of large ships. If you want to see the rotation of the Han River Bridge at night, here is the schedule:

  • From Monday to Friday: The bridge often rotates at 1 am. Prior to 15 minutes, all traffic activities on the bridge will stop. At exactly 1 o’clock, it will turn 90 degrees, creating two paths for ships to pass through. Then, from around 2 am to 4 am, the bridge will return to its original position, depending on the density of ships passing by that day.
  • On Saturday and Sunday: There will be many tourists visiting, so the opening time of the Han River Bridge will be earlier, around 11 pm. At midnight, it will return to its initial position.

How to Get There

Han River Bridge is located in the city center of Da Nang, and away from Da Nang International Airport, around 15 minutes to drive. Therefore, you can easily go to the bridge by many means of transport.

Depending on your location, you can get to Han River Bridge by motorbike, bicycle, bus, car, taxi, or walking. An advice for you is that the bridge connects the two main roads of Da Nang: Le Duan Street and Pham Van Dong Street. So, it would help if you navigated based on these two roads.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit the Han River Bridge is around midnight on the weekend. During this time, Indian visitors can fully appreciate its beauty as the lights illuminate the structure and the bridge rotates 90 degrees.

In addition, it’s advised to consider the weather conditions in Da Nang and plan your visit during the dry season, which typically spans from January to July. The careful preparation ensures a more enjoyable outdoor experience.
