The Ha Noi People’s Committee has approved the demolition of the ‘Shark Jaw’ (Ham Ca Map) building in Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, Hoan Kiem District, to make way for an underground complex.

The six-story commercial building at No.7 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, completed in 1993, will be replaced by a three-level underground space featuring cultural and commercial areas, parking, and multipurpose facilities. The project aims to enhance the square’s architectural landscape and strengthen its role as a historic and cultural hub.

The renovation will align with urban planning standards, with adjustments to Dinh Tien Hoang Street and improved accessibility through mechanised lift platforms. Studies on the project’s impact on surrounding buildings, heritage trees, and public spaces are also underway.

The plan will be finalised by the city’s Architecture Council before implementation.
